Addison walked into her bathroom, her husband wrapped his arms around her, causing her to jump in fear. It was an instant response, she didn't know why she was so jumpy. She turned and kissed him on the lips. Before finishing brushing her teeth and moving to the bedroom.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" He asked her, laying down beside her.
"I'm sure. I want to take all of the love we had for Audry and give it to someone who needs it." She said with a little smile.
"Are you ready?"
"I am if you are, it's been over a year since we lost her." Addison said, looking down sadly.
The next morning they left the children with the baby-sitter and drove the three hours to the orphanage where they met , what they believed to be the most perfect beautiful little girl in the entire world. She was from Russia, and had the most beautiful black curls and bright blue eyes. Three weeks later they were taking her home. They didn't know that their troubles were about to begin.

Derek and Addison had always been the type of parents kids wished they had. They were calm and lied back. They were cool and more often than not understood exactly what their kids were going through. Losing there daughter was the most painful that that could have happened to them. It sent Addison into a depression that Derek thought she would never recover from. Their solution was this little they'd decided to adopt. She was suppose to give them a newfound hope.
"I know we didn't make her, but she's still kinda cute, right?" he asked while he and his wife stood beside the bed and watch their new daughter sleep. It had taken them forever to actually get her to sleep, all she since they brough her home that day was cry and scream. "I never thought other people even knew how to make hot kids."
"She's so innocent looking. She had no one, Derek. She's not used to having love or attention. It's gonna be hard for her to adjust to us." Addison answered, pulling the blanket up to Alexis' shoulders to keep her as warm as possible on the cold New York night. "And she is cute, she looks a little like Audrey...the eyes at least."
"Stop comparing her to Audrey." Derek snapped not so harshly. "She's a different kid, she's not going to be the same as Audrey, not in the slightest. Don't think that that's going to happen and you can go on with your life as if she is Audrey and nothing has changed. We have to adjust to this. And we have to make her feel like she belongs."
"I know..." Addison mumbled softly as she followed Derek out of the room. "I guess we'll all gonna need a while to adjust to this. I just hope we didn't do the wrong thing by adopting her. I want this to work."

"I want this to work too Addison, but you have to admit that she's a different child, and you can't go on living as if she was the baby that we lost." It had been a year since her baby had been lost,,but she could remember it like it was yesterday, she had gone into labor early that morning, by noon the baby was born, and was being rushed to the operating room, by 2 they had come in to tell her that her baby was dead, they had asked if she wanted to hold her. She couldn't hold her. She couldn't take her child into her arms knowing that she would never breathe again. Her lungs had been under developed, her stomach swell. Her heart was born on the outside of her body.
"I miss her Derek, as much as we can't pretend that Alexis is Audry, we also can't pretend that Audry never existed." She said, and he threw his hands up into the air in a very aggravated tone. He always got this way when she tried to talk about the child that they had lost, the child that she had carried inside of her all of those months.
"I don't want to talk about this Addison." He said to her, his voice slightly rising.
"You NEVER want to talk about this. It was like she never existed." Addison exclaimed. Trying to keep her voice down so she didn't wake their children.

That was the end of their conversation for the night. Derek had gone straight to bed while Addison took one of those never ending showers. She took under the steaming hot water for a an hour and half while barely moving. After she had gone numb and ran out of her supply of tears so decided to get out, get dry and go to bed.
The next morning she woke with a jump, seeing the face of her eight year old adopted dauhgter right in her face. She closed her eyes for a second to take a deep breath before she began to pull herself up. She looked over her husband to see the clock on his nightstand. "It's 5 in the morning, honey." she said groggily.
"I can't sleep. I keep being dead people in my dreams and I'm afraid of the dark." she admitted, sure it made her sound insane but a child is suppose to be able to confide in her parents. Its one of the most important aspects of a relationship between a child and her parents.
"Do you wanna sleep here?" Derek asked, pulling himself up enough to see the girl standing on Addison's side of the bed. "Sophie sleeps in here when she has a bad dream and it usually makes her feel better. Plus it's warmers cause of all the body heat."
"I don't want to sleep. I don't like sleep." she answered.

"You start school today sweetheart. You don't want to go back to sleep for just a little while?" Addison asked pleadingly. She had gone to bed late and then her pager had awoken her at 2am. There was a tragedy at the hospital, and they couldn't survive without her. So now, two hours later she was back and sleeping peacefully when her daughter wakes her after only an hour of sleep. She looked up at her parents pleadingly, Addison felt as if she were going to die.
"Climb up here with us. You don't have to go to sleep, but lay quietly because I'm going to go back to sleep,"
"I want you to cook me breakfast."
"At five am?"
"I'm hungry."
"How about you go to the kitchen and make yourself a snack and then go shower and get ready for school? I'll be up shortly." She said quietly.
"I don't want to go to school ! I'm not allowed to use the stoveā¦.I could burn myself." She said plainly and innocently.
"So use the microwave." Addison said turning over. "Now please honey mommy's only had three hours of sleep in the last couple of days. Please go . "

"You're not my Mommy. If you were you'd get out of bed right now and do something for me. You're just trying to trick me so you can go back to sleep. And I'm not going to school, I'll run away from there if you make me go. I'll kick everyone and run like I did that one time at the orphange."
"Oh god..." Derek groaned tiredly, burying his face in his pillow for a few seconds before sitting up again. "I'll get up with you and make you breakfast. Let's let Addie sleep a little more, she had to go to work in the middle of the night and I'm pretty sure she's exhausted."
"I want pancakes and waffle...But I only like it with homemade batter and I like homemade syrup...not the stuff you get at the store." Alexis explained. "I can't eat anything that's not homemade, it makes me me really sick." she added before walking out the door to go downstairs.
"Homemade syrup?" Derek asked his wife while he pulled a pair of pants on. "Is that even possible?"
"But store bough syrup in a fancy serving dish and tell her it's homemade." Addison mumbled, turning on her side and getting comfortable enough to fall back to sleep for another hour or two. "Make sure to get Anthony and Sophia up for school in time. And I'm pretty sure homemade syrup would make them barf so assure them that you had nothing to do in it's production."
Derek groaned, realizing exactly how hard it was going to be to juggle children without two different sets of values. He rubbed his eyes and walked out the door to see Alexis sitting halfway down the staircase and looking down the railing. "What are you doin? Are you scared of heights or something?"
"I was just thinking..." she answered distractedly. "It would suck to fall off here cause its really high."
"Yeah, well...we've never had that problem and I'm hoping we never will."

Sofia was sleeping peacefully in her pink princess bedroom. Her mother was downstairs and her father was at work or somewhere. Anthony was playing x-box in his room, and she didn't know where Alexis was, but really she didn't care. She had a fever , and had to come home early from school today, and although she had sleept all day long, she really just wanted to do nothing but sleep now.
She woke up with a start to Alexis standing over her, holding a huge rock in her pale hands.
" Wanta play?" She asked Sofia looked up her eyes confused. Alexis dropped the rock once, Sofia sriked in pain and moved backwards. It didn't hit Sofia, but she was frightened all the same. She must be dreaming this couldn't be real. The next time Sofia wasn't so lucky, Holding the rock firmly in her hands Alexis took it and hit her over the head with it. She didn't have enough strength to cause massive damage, but she did manage to make Sofia bleed.
"Tell anyone about this , and I will kill you. " Alexis threatened as she left the room. Sofia, crying went to find her mommy. Her head was bleeding, and as she put her hand to her nose which was hurting , she realized that it was bleeding swell.

"What happen to you?!" Addison asked as soon as her daughter cam into sight. "You were suppose to be in bed not running around trying to get yourself hurt. You look like you were mugged in an alley."
"We were playing and she fell on the rocks outside." Alexis appeared from no were and said, she was trying to defend herself from getting blamed and in trouble. "I told her she should be in bed cuz she's sick but she didn't listen. She wanted to play!"
"It's okay, Lex. She'll be fine." Addison assured, picking up her daughter to comfort her tears away. She didn't really care if she clothing ended up getting blood or not. "Let's just get the bleeding to stop, we'll clean it and disinfect it, put a bandaid on it and get you back into bed. Okay? But this time you can't get up to play."
Sophia glared over her mother's shoulder to her "sister" before nuzzeling her head into her mother's shoulder and whimpering in pain. "I'm sorry, Mommy. I should have listened to you." she cried.
"I'll always listen to you, Mom. I promise." Alexis inserted defensively, recieving a small smile in return while Addison placed Sophia on the counter of the master bathroom.
"You don't have to stand here and watch, Alexis. Doesn't blood disgust you? Kids aren't usually a fan of watching wounds be fix up, especially ones that are gushing out like this. She'll be fine, you don't have to be worried and you don't have to force yourself to watch." Addison said while she worked to control the bleeding with the limited supplies she had at home.
"I like blood...I like nasty stuff." Alexis answered with a fairly disturbing smirk. "I'm not like your average kid. Nasty and distrubing means fun in my world." The comment earned her a quirked eye brow. Thought Addison didn't think much of the comment, it would make sense through the time they would spend together.
