Addison and Derek. Back when they had just gotten married that was enough to sum everything up. They were Addison and Derek and they never quit. They knew what they wanted and how to get it. They were determined and hard working and nothing could stop them. They were the golden couple of medicine, the two doctors that every other medical proffestional that the world envied. That was quick to change.
In Seattle Addison was the last person anyone could envy. She was alone for the most part, her husband was in love with another woman and she had given up. The woman who didn't believe in giving up had given up. She didn't care about anything anymore, she didn't care what happen to her marriage or herself.
Derek could never understand what was going on with his wife. At one point he knew what she was thinking before she thought it. He could look at her and read her like an open book, now he didn't understand a word she said. Even the most direct and clear message made no sense. There weren't Addison and Derek anymore. She wasn't even Addison anymore. She was just a woman like any other, lost in a life that made no sense.

She sat all alone in the deserted corridor of the hospital NICU unit. She closed her eyes and rested her head in her hands, she wasn't tired, she wasn't even really sad, OK her marriage was a total fail, the man she devoted her entire life to was inlove with a kindergarden baby, truly the anti addison. She was sweet and doe eyed. She was blonde and thin. Addison ran her fingers through her hair. What was she thinking? She had the body of a super model, and the red hair to match her fisty attitude. She was the best in her speciality while this doe eyed little princess was only a mere intern. But no. She didn't care about that now. What she cared about is that she spent her life devoted to her work, and the most she got from it today was a dead premature baby. She thought she could play God......and for once, just this once she had failed.
Derek walked down the hallway. He was looking for his wife, he knew that she was suppose to have been offwrok hours ago, and although it didn't supprise him to find her here, sitting on the floor in the deserted hallway of the NICU. She spent all of her days there latley. She always avoided him, although he was trying his best to work things out between them. He knew that they had been down this path before, and that he had broken her heart multipal times in the past, telling her that he loves her, telling her that he needs her and that he could never live without her. Telling her that the things between himself and meredith was all over. But he knew that no matter how much he loved Addison, he loved Meredith ten times more. He just couldn't let her go.
"What are you doing here? " She asked him, her voice cold.
"I think I could ask you the same." He responded, sitting down beside her.
"Like you care?" She asked.
"Addison, I'm trying here....Why won't you just let me try?"
"We've been down this road before derek, and every time we've 'tried' you've gone back to her. I'm not letting you hurt me anymore."

"No, we haven't tried. At least not together at the same time. In New York your were trying, when you first came out to Seattle you were trying. Then you gave up and now I'm trying to try and you won't let me." he answered.
"Trying to try." Addison repeated. "You shouldn't have to try, I wasn't trying. I was being myself. I was displaying what I felt but you're right, I did give up and I don't need you to lie to me and change how you feel so that you could 'try to try'."
"That's not what I mean...I am being myself. I am showing you how I feel. I do love you, you just don't want to hear me out. You gave up and once you give up...and once you set your mind to something that its over. You decided that you dont care anymore so our marraige is over. Well, guess what? I'm in this too and I saying it's not over. You have to try, I'm not giving you a choice."
"Fine, I'll try just as hard as you did when I first got here." Addison responded. "I'll ignore you, call you 'Satan' and saying another man's name while you fuck me. I'll put just as much effort as you did. Fair enough?"
"Why are you making this so hard?" Derek asked emotionlessly. He didn't understand why she couldn't just set the past aside and move on with him. Why she couldn't be as willing as she had been before. He didn't understand how she changed so much in such a short period of time. "You used to say that we'd be able to do anything as long as we did it together."
"Yeah..." she ponded, looking into his eyes. "And you used to say that I was the love of your life. Things change. People move on. It's a fact of life."
"Fine, Addison." Derek answered. He pushed himself off the floor and took a few steps in the opposite direction from her. "I'm going home, with or without you. And I'll wait for you, and if you dont come than it's your choice but don't make it sound like I'm the one who doesn't want you there."

"Go then. Go home and fuck your little doe eyed baby in our bed, see if I care." She said. She really didn't care if he went or stayed. It wasn't as if she had a chance to care.
"Don't do this Addiosn." He begged
But She looked back down on the ground until the sound of his shoes faded away in the distance, and then she looked up again. Focousing all of her attention on the poster of a mother holding her baby, explaining the dangers of Shaking your baby. The slogan shake your booty not your baby was printed in bold ink on the bottom of the paper.
*Hours lateR*
"Looks like your here late." A males voice said, she looked up she was walking out of the hospital to Joes bar, she needed a drink to make all of the hurt and pain she was feeling escape from her body, from her soul.
"No later than yourself." She retorted. Not even bothering to acknowlage who was talking to her.

"Yeah, well... I'm a guy. Guys can take care of themselves." he answered. "You're a girl. You have no idea who dangerous it can be out here at this hour, especially for someone as attractive as yourself." he answered.
"How very sexist of you." she answered. "I'm not a little girl, I don't need a man to protect me. And I don't need some stranger to hit on me in a bar in the middle of the night and try to protect me from this dangerous world. I'm far past realizing the pain of life."
"I'm not trying to protect you." he assured.
The next thing she knew she had a hand covering her mouth and another man was cradling her in their arms and taking her outside. It was too loud and crowded in the bar for anyone to notice. She shut her eyes and pretend that it was all a helusination. But when she opened them she found herself on the cold, semi wet pavement of the sidewalk with a heavy body ontop of her. Her mouth was still covered except now it was duct tape, her hands had been taped together making it almost impossible to fight. Her legs were spread and being steadily held apart by two men. She couldn't squirm or kick. She could scream and beg for help.
Before she knew it she could feel someone inside of her and to her surpise she felt worse than she had with Derek in the recent months. She doubted that that would be possible but tonight had proven her wrong. Derek would pretend she was Meredith, he would be loving and passionate but only because in his mind it was Meredith that he was holding. That what hurt her. But this was different. This wasn't psychological. This was actual physical pain. She felt like she was being ripped apart and tortured and worst of all was the fact that she had no power to stop it.

Addison tried her best to scream out as she felt blows to her head, and kicks to her stomach, a huge stomp to her rib. She closed her eyes and pretended to be passed out, hoping that they would leave her if she pretended she was dead. But it was to no joy. The beatings continued for what felt like hours, until finally all she could feel was the pain.
She could't believe this was happening to her. How could she, the smart, beautiful woman of power be the victim of a violent crime? How could she have been so stupid as to have let this happen to her?
The pain was worse than anything she had ever felt in her entire life, and she could tell from the pain in her head that she was bleeding. She tried to move, tried to scream out but she was imobail.
"OMG!" She heard a voice say.....hours later. Was it her imagination? She couldn't be sure, her head was foggy, the pain was more than anything she had ever felt in her life. It felt as if she were swimming in and out of counsiousness, but she could feel every ounce of pain and torture they had done her. She felt someone wrap a blanket around her and pick her up into their arms. She didn't know who it was, or where they were takeing her, but anywhere was better than being here.

Derek was woken by the sound of his cell phone ringing. He reached onto the bedside table and grabbed it, checking the caller ID on the screen. It was the hospital, but who else could it have been in the middle of the night. He sat up before answering, looking beside him to see that Addison had never made it back home. He shook his head with disapproval before rubbing his eyes and picking up the call.
"Hello?" he answered in a groggy and tired voice.
"Dr. Shepherd." he heard a vaguely familiar voice great him. It was too late at night for him to place the voice with a name or face. "We need you to come to the ER as soon as possible."
"I'm not on call tonight." he answered dismissevly, ready to hang up.
"It's not proffesional, Doctor. It's personal." the voice told him. "Your wife was found naked and beaten outside the bar. She'd been raped. Someone brought her in but left. They didn't see anything but they they walked out and saw her lying there unable to move. I'm sure she'd want you with her, sir."
Derek nodded, not realizing that no one could see him. "I'll be there as soon as I can." he answered and quickly got out of bed. He pulled on a pair of jeans and a sweater without looking. It didn't matter what he was wearing or if it matched. That was the least of his worries at that second.
30 minutes later he arrived in the ER and walked into a small dark room which contained his wife. It was silent and depressing. She looked as dead as anyone could look while still alive and alert.
"I heard what happen." he began. "They said you won't let them examine you...they were hoping you'd give in once I got here. I'll hold your hand the whole time, okay? Just let them make sure that you're okay." he begged.
"I don't need you to hold my hand. You weren't there when I needed you." she answered with tears pooling in her eyes. "But then again, I can't complain right? It's karma. This is what I get for not being able to keep my legs together. Whores get fucked..."
The last few sentance she said cause him to wince. The thought that she thought she deserved this killed him. "You're not a whore. And you did not deserve this." he answered, walking closer to her. "You'll be okay, Addison. Let me take care of you."
"How could I survive this?" she asked. "My vagina is torn, I can feel it. I was kicked, over and over and over in the ribs but they're not broken. I was choked and they tried to suffocate me. They tore my thigh open with a pocket knife. They banged my head on concrete and I'm fine... I'm still alive. How could I be alive after all that. Why couldn't they just stab me and leave me there to die. After everything else they did, is that too much to ask for?"
"Addison..." he whispered, wiping a few of his own tears away. Derek did not cry, ever. The only person that could drive him to tears was Addison. No one else had that power. "I'm glad you're still alive and you should be, too. If you would just let me take care of you all of this will be alright. I'll be there for you. I'll never let anyone touch you. Why won't you trust me?"
